The Masked Ball - NYE 2018

Thank you everyone for an epic night! You guys welcomed in 2019 with one hell of a party. Although I was photographing the night I still had an awesome time with a surprising amount of selfie requests. Here are a few of my favourites from the night. For all of the photos click on the link at the bottom of the page.

See you there next year :)

Love is Love

This year I have the pleasure of shooting a few same sex weddings. I found it upsetting that one of them actually asked me whether I would be interested in photographing a same sex wedding? My answer "LOVE IS LOVE!". It doesn't matter who you are, where you're from or what your preferences are, I shoot real weddings where the focus is two people coming together to celebrate their love.

Matt & Dan's day at Enys Gardens was full of love, laughter, missing ceilings and bare brick walls, not to mention the biggest Blue Bell fields in Europe. Anything out of the ordinary always get the creative juices flowing. From hired palms to indoor festoon lights, the second I walked into the building I knew it was going to be a great day. Here are a few photos from a rad day!

Lake District Wedding Photography

Shooting a wedding in the Lake District recently was full of firsts. First Military wedding, first wedding in The Lake District and first time attending a wedding as a guest since working in the wedding industry. It would have been rude to be in such a beautiful location amongst friends new and old and not snap a few photos. I see photographing a wedding as a privilege and a pleasure, I  never have to 'work' if I have my camera in hand as I enjoy taking photographs ever so much. J&B hired an official photographer for their day but here are a few shots I took as well from an alternate perspective.

Thanks for an awesome day. We had so much fun!!

Knightor Winery Wedding Photography

Sometimes weddings are small and surrounded by the select few chosen to be part of a very personal day. When I met Liz & Andrew they told me "we are as awkward in front of a camera as Chandler from Friends". Couples shoots don't have to be posed! I shoot real weddings with real people having a great time. I just asked L&A to walk to a certain location and just be themselves and I did the rest. Making sure the bride and groom are comfortable with everything is at the top of my priorities, this is why I meet my couples first and gauge which approach Ill take. Here are a few photos from their day :)

Sri Lanka

Backpacking, sun, surf & tuk tuks.

My wife and I recently had the pleasure of honeymooning in Sri Lanka. With the first stint of our trip backpacking between popular tourist spots (Ella, Kandy, Tissa) we managed to soak up some of the Sri Lankan culture and natural beauty this wonderful place had to offer. Climbing Sigiriya (Lion Rock) was a beautiful sight to see, but as lady luck was on our side she made our safari in Yala national park one of the most memorable experiences we have ever had. Our drivers sixth sense stopped us with a front row seat to witness a mother leopard and her two cubs cross the road directly in front of us. Something that I know Lolly and I will never forget!

The second stage of our trip took us to Soul & Surf where yoga, surf and luxury go hand in hand. We were blessed to have shared the surf camp with wonderful people and welcoming staff that as the week came to a close there were nothing but hugs, kisses and kind words to be said. Without S&S I don't think our trip would have been the same. Thanks guys!

Wedding Video Music

Choosing the music for a wedding video is one of the hardest parts of my job. Not only does it set the mood and the pace of the video but it dictates how ill edit the video to suit. I have had the full spectrum from couples asking for only one specific song all the way through to "do whatever you like, you have total creative freedom".

Most couples do like to have a part in picking music for their videos. The way I find works best is to have a playlist of 10 - 15 songs chosen by the couple and then I choose from that playlist. Plain and simply, some songs just won't translate into a good video. To most people if you were to say "wedding video music" they would go for something slow, instrumental or romantic. Im all about the love and romance, but I see a wedding day as one of the funnest days of your lives surrounded by your closest friends and family partying the night away. Why not have some music which enhances that fun and well, make the bride look like a rock star in the process. Obviously amongst a couple of romantic songs if you wish :)

Instead of thinking of a song which you would imagine a wedding video being edited to, try and think of songs or artists that mean something to you or just songs that you love. Your first gig together, your first dance song, your favourite festival band or just a good old classic that takes you back! There are no rules when it comes to song selection, who said you have to have Ed Sheeran? The wider the selection of music, the more creative freedom I have when it comes to the edit.

Here is an example where Nina Simone drops into Kings of Leon, a strange mix but it just works.

I would love to hear your thoughts on music and your suggestions for alternative wedding songs. Leave a comment below
