Eden-Project-Wedding

This has been a long time coming ……. A year to be exact.

Being a photographer and videographer in Cornwall, the Eden-Project has been on my bucket list of venues since pretty much day one.

I was very excited when Nicky & Oli told me that they were having their wedding reception there and that they wanted me to make them a video.

Let’s start from the beginning.

Nicky & Oli, Newquay locals started their day the right way. In a big, spacious, beautifully lit with natural light room, with sea views of our very own Fistral beach (I know it’s not ‘our beach’ but it is the closest and where we hang out in the Summer). Lewinnick Lodge is stunning for any occasion.

Onto to the wedding….

Although technically they they signed the paperwork in a legal ceremony earlier in the week (where I was witness/photographer), they had their official ceremony at Fistral Bay Hotel. It was great to see the swell pushing in heavy while the guests arrived and were welcomed by Nico (Nicky & Oli’s son). The ceremony was just perfect. Led by a precessions of gorgeous bridesmaids, Nicky walked down the aisle on her own and was beaming with a mix of excitement, nerves and bundles of love. Oli was grinning like a cheshire cat as he watched her. Bridesmaid/sister Georgia walked down the aisle and surprised everyone by standing at the front and leading the ceremony. It is an incredible privilege to be able to marry two of your best friends and extremely meaningful for everyone involved. You could see just how much it meant to them after they were pronounced husband & wife and after the first kiss, all three of them had a huge group hug and burst of happy tears :)

Post ceremony there was confetti, group shots and then onto the busses to be swept off to Eden. Greeted on the bus with mandatory roadie. Knowing what these two party animals are like I would expect nothing less.

The Eden-Project is a wedding-venue like no other. Where else can you have your reception drinks in a Mediterranean climate before going for a walk in a tropical forest surrounded by heat, humidity and sounds of waterfalls. We went for a little walk into the tropical biome for a few shots before getting back to the party and the food/speeches. The dining area is covered in festoon lights and palm trees. It genuinely felt like we were having a wonderful evening in a foreign climate. No matter what the weather was doing outside, it is always toasty in the biomes.

THE PARTY

During discussions with Oli about the party and the DJ to be precise, I mentioned that he should make sure that they have some good lighting for the party. Anything from some small floor standing decorative lights to nightclub level, lighting shouldn’t be overlooked!! It can make all the difference the atmosphere of the dance floor. Oli’s words were “ I have spoken to the DJ, he is bringing ALL his lights”. My initial thoughts were “oh shit, its going to be like the Blackpool illuminations”. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the lighting was perfect. A tiny bit of smoke mixed with the lighting and a ‘lets party’ attitude meant that the dance floor was instantly filled and went off with a bang.

I think I have rambled on enough about their wedding now.

Nicky & Oli asked me to purposely not send them their videos until their first anniversary. I’m a strong believer in “the longer you leave it, the more you will appreciate it’, but a whole year is total commitment.
